| Ultimately, Pickett became the first black cowboy ever inducted into the National Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame. During his illustrious career, Pickett achieved notoriety as the inventor of the rodeo sport, bulldogging. "Lu Vason Presents" celebrates this famous cowboy with the 23rd Annual Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo. Bill Pickett is arguably the best-known black cowboy of all time. The U.S. Postal Service recently honored him by inclusion in their Winners of the West postage series. Pickett invented the sport of bulldogging, which with modifications is to this day a main rodeo event. He not only worked as a cowboy, but also exhibited his many skills in Wild West shows throughout the world and is the only black cowboy inducted into the National Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City.
