Mountaineering is definitely a great outdoor activity. However, it is not a sport for every person. It is only for those who are determined to go to the top of the mountains. Only those who have the confidence to go those peaks can participate in this fun activity. Reaching the summit of the mountain is the highest achievement that a climber will ever have. It should however not be lost to you that mountaineering is not all about fun. It is one of the riskiest sports and deadliest ones. Due to collapsing and other risks, many mountain climbers have lost lives as they try to climb mountains. Others have become maimed as a result of accidents. If you truly love mountain climbing, you don’t have a reason to fear nevertheless. The deadliest mountain on the earth is the Mont Blank Massif. It has a height of 15,782 ft and is the tallest peak in the Alpine range. The rock slides have been causing death of climber’s year in year out. It is the mountain with the highest number of fatalities with an average of 100 climbers per year. It has a record of over 6000 dead climbers. It is very popular since president Theodore Roosevelt reached its top in 1886.
The second dangerous mountain on the earth is the Annapurna. It has a height of above 26,246 ft. Climbers from everywhere are attracted by the Nepal Annapurna which is the tallest peak. Since 1950, the mountain has been climbed successfully by 191 climbers. As climbers try to reach the summit of Annapurna, 60 people have since died. it is referred as the most dangerous mount for those with 8000 meters peak.
K2 is another mountain under focus and is the second tallest mount on the earth. Its location is on the border of Pakistan and China and has height of 28,251 ft. Climbing Kilimanjaro is easy but not K2. This happens to be the case even on the easiest route where there are steep rocks, complicated glaciers and ice pillars that can collapse. This mount seems to be biased against female climbers. Six women had tried to climb the mountain and five of them died since year 2003.
Another mountain under this category is the Nanga Parbat which is known as the man eater. The mount is located in Pakistan and boasts of 26,657ft. It has enormous ridge of ice and rock. It ranks as number nine in height in the world and has the tallest mountain face. As of 1953, it has claimed lives of 31 climbers.
